How We Launched AdArena: 59 Ads, 50 Winners, One Belief

Every two-sided marketplace has the same first-week problem. Brands won't join because there are no creators. Creators won't join because there are no brands. Most marketplaces try to solve it with money. We tried to solve it with a challenge.
In March 2026 we opened the first-ever AdArena challenge — on ourselves. Prize pool ₪10,000. First prize $1,000. 18 days. The brief: make an ad for AdArena. 59 creators submitted. 50 of them got paid.
"לפני שהיה לנו לקוח אחד, היו לנו 59 מודעות ו־50 יוצרים. ככה התחלנו."
Why 50 out of 59 winners
Standard tournaments pay one to five people and call it a day. That model works for prestige. It doesn't work for a marketplace launch. We needed 50 creators to walk away with money in their pockets, telling their friends "AdArena actually paid me," because word-of-mouth is the only distribution channel that matters in the first 30 days of a marketplace.
The math worked. Average payout was around $70. Every creator got taste. Every creator had a reason to come back. The next challenge — a paying brand — had a warmed-up creator base ready to go on day one.
This is documented in the /case-studies/adarena-genesis page.

What won
Three patterns showed up in the top 10, and they set the template for every AdArena brief since.
First-person personal opener beat brand-image openers
The highest-scoring ads opened with a creator on camera saying "אני יוצר AI" — "I'm an AI creator" — or "I've been trying every AI tool for six months, and…" Personal. Direct. First-person. Brand-image cold opens — logos, glossy shots, corporate voiceover — died on the leaderboard.
Spoken Hebrew, no marketing jargon
Every winning ad sounded like a person talking to a friend. "אחי, תשמע, יש פלטפורמה חדשה…" beat "AdArena — הפלטפורמה שמשנה את כללי המשחק בעולם הפרסום." Every time. This became a permanent rule in our creator brief lab templates.
Widest winner payout proved the model
Paying 50 of 59 wasn't charity. It was signal. It told every creator watching that AdArena is the platform where only winners get paid, and winners actually get paid. That's the whole business model. If we couldn't demonstrate it on ourselves, we couldn't ask a brand to trust it.
See the same principle at work in the Kolbo and Poker Face case studies.
The playbook
For any founder launching a two-sided marketplace:
- Run the first campaign on yourself. Never ask a customer to trust a model you haven't proven.
- Pay wide, not deep. More winners = more word-of-mouth = faster network effect.
- Publish the numbers immediately. Transparency is marketing.
- Brief in the target language. If your users speak Hebrew, brief in Hebrew.
- First-person openers beat brand-image openers, always.
- Keep the tournament short. 14–21 days is the sweet spot.
- Turn your genesis campaign into a case study. You're reading it right now.
Why we built AdArena
Brands were burning six figures on production for ads that didn't move a metric. Creators were making better ads on their phones for free. Someone had to connect the two. That's AdArena.
Brands: launch a challenge, see pricing, or read the full /case-studies. Creators: apply to join, climb the leaderboard, get paid. Everyone: browse the gallery and the creator economy hub.
Frequently asked questions
Why did you pay 50 out of 59 people? Because we were launching a marketplace, and 50 word-of-mouth ambassadors are worth more than a single hero video.
Was the ₪10,000 prize pool worth it? Yes. It bought us the first cohort of creators we'd ever work with, plus 59 ads we still use as internal reference material.
Would you do it again? We're doing it right now on every new AdArena vertical launch — challenges, gallery, brief lab.
Can other founders copy this? Yes. Any two-sided marketplace can run the same playbook. Pay wide. Publish loud. Brief in the language your users speak.
What was the biggest surprise? That first-person openers beat brand-image openers by so much. We rewrote our internal brief templates the week the results landed.
