From Brief to Winning Ad in 7 Days: Inside a Real AdArena Competition

Seven days is short enough that people assume corners are being cut. They are not โ€” the timeline works because the sourcing, production and selection run in parallel instead of in sequence. Here is exactly what happens.

    Day 0: The brief

The brand answers a structured set of questions: what the product actually does, who is meant to buy it, the one thing the ad must communicate, the non-negotiables (format, length, must-show elements), and what is deliberately left open.

That last part is the one brands get wrong most often. Over-specify and you receive dozens of near-identical ads โ€” you have paid for a competition and bought a production run. The brief should lock the truth and free the angle.

Prize pools start at $5,000, with flagship competitions at $7,500 and above, split across a ranked list of finishers rather than winner-take-all.

Days 1โ€“2: The brief reaches the creator pool

The brief goes live to a pool of over 1,000 registered creators. Creators self-select โ€” the ones who understand the category, the format or the audience opt in. Nobody is assigned. That self-selection is doing quiet work: you get people who think they can win this specific brief.

Early submissions start arriving within 48 hours, which is usually the brand's first real surprise. Angles appear that were not in anyone's plan.

    Days 3โ€“5: Volume and divergence

This is where the format earns its keep. Submissions arrive in bulk and โ€” crucially โ€” they diverge. Different hooks, different emotional premises, different formats. Not variations of one idea from one engine, but genuinely competing ideas from different minds.

Brands watching this phase often revise their internal assumption about which angle would win. That revision is the product.

    Day 6: Judging

The brand reviews finished ads, not pitches or storyboards. In practice, judging runs in two passes:

    1. Filter on the brief. Anything that misses a stated non-negotiable is out, regardless of how good it looks.
    2. Rank on performance instinct. Hook strength in the first 1.5 seconds, clarity of the single message, product legibility, and whether it would survive a muted feed.

The strongest brands rank rather than pick โ€” because the second, third and fourth place ads become the fatigue rotation later.

Day 7: Winners, payment and IP

Winners are announced and prizes distributed across the ranked list. The brand takes full IP on the ads it selects and pays for. Everything else stays with the creators for their portfolios.

Then the ads go into market โ€” which is the only judging that finally counts.

    Where brands go wrong

    • Over-briefing. Killing the angle kills the point.
    • Judging as art direction. The prettiest ad is frequently not the best-performing one.
    • Picking one winner and discarding the rest. The runners-up are your next quarter's fatigue rotation.
    • Waiting for consensus. Committee judging regresses to the safest ad, which is rarely the winner.

Why seven days is possible at all

Because nothing waits for anything else. Sourcing, production and evaluation overlap, and production itself is no longer the bottleneck it was. What used to be a six-week linear chain is now a one-week parallel one.
